Loreeta Canton
Loreeta Canton is an award-winning artist currently living in Longmont, Colorado. A member of the Southwest Florida Pastel Society, Loreeta works primarily with graphite, charcoal, soft pastel, and watercolor. She enjoys the intricacies of drawing with graphite and charcoal, the brilliance and immediacy of painting with pastels, and the luminosity and delicacy of painting with watercolor. These media allow her to connect with people and places through her art. She is inspired by several artists: Mary Cassatt for her ability to capture tender, everyday moments; Claude Monet for his rendering of light and color; and Caravaggio for his dramatic compositions and mastery of light and shadow.
Canton has felt a deep connection to the land since growing up on the prairie of western North Dakota; as a result, her main subject is nature -- from intimate renderings of birds and flowers to panoramic landscapes. She finds joy in capturing the feelings a place evokes and using color and light to connect to the world. Canton's works help her to see the world anew and to treasure the beauty all around. Her hope is that her viewers experience the same.
